Notes on the Genus Siopelus Murray, 1859,
with descriptions of twelve new species from
the Afrotropical region
(Coleoptera Carabidae, Harpalinae)

Abstract - Twelve new species of the genus Siopelus Murray, 1859 are described from the Afrotropical region: Siopelus (s. str.) usambarensis n. sp., S. (s. str.) brevitarsis n. sp., S. (s. str.) microcephalus n. sp., S. (Neosiopelus) transvaalensis n. sp., S. (Neosiopelus) opaculus n. sp., S. (Neosiopelus) pseudoopaculus n. sp., S. (Neosiopelus) pseudowrasei n. sp., S. (Neosiopelus) wundanyiensis n. sp., S. (Neosiopelus) gretae n. sp., S. (Neosiopelus) irregularis n. sp., S. (Neosiopelus) angolensis n. sp., S. (Orinophonus) malawicus n. sp. Habitus and male genitalia of the new species are illustrated. Moreover, the following systematic changes are proposed: Hypolithus legitimus Barker, 1922 is not a synonym of Hypolithus caffer Boheman, 1848, but a junior (new) synonym of Hypolithus connexus Péringuey, 1896; Hypolithus damarensis Kuntzen, 1919 is a junior (new) synonym of Hypolithus caffer Boheman, 1848.
