a very brief history


Issue 67 was picked up from printers, as traditional “ink on paper” (color offset) copies, on March 8th, 2022, on March 12th, 2022, copies were mailed to subscribers all over the world; several electronic formats, e.g. PDFs, JPEGs etc. of Giornale at High Definition, identical to the traditional “ink on paper” copies, have been also widely distributed. No. 67 is a 176 pages issue enriched by 32 color plates. Below, cover and contents.

Abstract - An undescribed species of Agrilus Curtis, 1825 found in the Mexican fossiliferous amber deposits of Simojovel in Chiapas, Mexico is described: Agrilus sucinum n. sp. The formation of the deposit is traced back to the early Middle Miocene with an estimated age dated at 15-20 million years.


Riassunto - Viene descritta una specie inedita di Agrilus Curtis, 1825 trovata nell’ambra dai giacimenti fossiliferi messicani di Simojovel nel Chiapas: Agrilus sucinum n. sp. La formazione del giacimento viene fatta risalire al Miocene Medio con datazione stimata tra i 15 e i 20 milioni di anni.

Abstract - Orthocladiscus cocoi n. sp. from India, O. cyanenoctis n. sp. and O. mariae n. sp. from Laos are described. Their habitus, genitalia and other characters of taxonomic value are illustrated. Furthermore, the list of species of the genus Orthocladiscus Corporaal & van der Wiel, 1949 is provided, and new country records are reported for three of them.

Abstract - Twelve new species, one new subspecies of Acmaeodera Eschscholtz, 1829, and two new species of Xantheremia Volkovitsh, 1979 - Acmaeodera (Acmaeodera) trojani sp. nov. (Republic of South Africa), A. (Acmaeotethya) brechteli sp. nov. (Egypt: Sinai), A. (A.) clanwilliamensis sp. nov. (Republic of South Africa), A. (A.) iringae sp. nov. (Tanzania), A. (A.) nera sp. nov. (Republic of South Africa), A. (A.) oudtshoornensis sp. nov. (Republic of South Africa), A. (A.) puchneri sp. nov. (Republic of South Africa), A. (A.) tanzaniae sp. nov. (Tanzania), A. (Rugacmaeodera) moyalensis sp. nov. (Kenya, Ethiopia), A. (Paracmaeodera) cornuta sp. nov. (Ethiopia, Kenya), A. (P.) posticalis majori ssp. nov. (Namibia), A. (P.) sedlaceki sp. nov. For several taxa of Acmaeodera are made nomenclatural acts and changes: Acmaeodera (Acmaeotethya) grata Fahråeus, 1851 = A. (A.) apicerubra Marseul, 1867, confirmed synonymy; A. (A.) pastoralis Gestro, 1881, bona species; A. (A.) wahlbergii Fahråeus, 1851, bona species = A. (A.) grata kudrnai Krajčík, 2015, new synonymy = A. (A.) semimarmorata Marseul, 1867, confirmed synonymy = A. (A.) semimarmorea Thomson, 1878, confirmed synonymy; A. (Paracmaeodera) saundersii Waterhouse, 1904, bona species; A. (Ptychomus) descarpentriesi Holm, 1978, bona species; A. (P.) surcoufi Théry, 1931, bona species; A. (P.) surcoufi woodi Obenberger, 1928, status novum. The Xantheremia (Paratethya) convoluta (Klug, 1829) species group is established within the subgenus Paratethya Bílý, 1983; composition and diagnostic characters of all species of Paratethya are discussed.

Abstract - Four new species of Nothochodaeus are described from China: N. yunnanicus sp. nov. from Yingjiang, Yunnan; N. schoolmeestersi sp. nov. from Di Qing, Yunnan; N. guangxiensis sp. nov. from Guangxi; N. yingjiangensis sp. nov. from Yingjiang, Yunnan. N. monglaensis Ochi, Kon & Kakizoe is newly recorded from Jing Hong, Yunnan. A key to the species of Nothochodaeus from mainland China is also provided.

Revisione del genere Paraplatyope

con descrizione di una nuova specie e di un nuovo genere

Riassunto - Viene discussa la sistematica, la tassonomia e la distribuzione geografica delle specie appartenenti al genere Paraplatyope Löbl, Bouchard, Merkl & Bousquet, 2020: Paraplatyope thesigeri Gridelli, 1953 e P. tihamana Koch, 1965 non vengono considerate sottospecie di P. arabica (Blair, 1931), ma specie valide. Paraplatyope arabica gridellii Koch, 1965 è nuovo sinonimo di P. arabica (Blair, 1931) e quest’ultima è da considerarsi monotipica. Si descrive Paraplatyope elamita n. sp. dell’Iran sud-occidentale (loc. typ.: 7 km ovest di Ahvaz) e il nuovo genere Macroplatyope (specie tipo: Paraplatyope popovi Koch, 1965). Vengono fornite chiavi di determinazione bilingue (italiano e inglese) per le specie del genere Paraplatyope e per la separazione dei generi ad esso affini (Leucolaephini sensu PIERRE, 1964).


Abstract - Revision of the genus Paraplatyope with description of a new species and a new genus (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae, Pimeliini) - The systematics, taxonomy and geographical distributions of the species belonging to the genus Paraplatyope Löbl, Bouchard, Merkl & Bousquet, 2020 are discussed: Paraplatyope thesigeri Gridelli, 1953 and P. tihamana Koch, 1965, are not subspecies of P. arabica (Blair, 1931), but valid species. Paraplatyope arabica gridellii Koch, 1965 is a new junior synonym of P. arabica (Blair, 1931), and the latter is considered monotypic. Paraplatyope elamita n. sp. from southwestern Iran (type loc.: 7 km west of Ahvaz) and the new genus Macroplatyope (type species: Paraplatyope popovi Koch, 1965) are described. Bilingual (Italian and English) identification keys are provided for the species of the genus Paraplatyope, and for the separation of its related genera (Leucolaephini sensu PIERRE, 1964).

Abstract - The male of Thopeutica (Thopeutica) allardiana Cassola, 1991 is described and illustrated for the first time. The female holotype of the same is illustrated and redescribed. The assignment of the species to the genus Thopeutica is confirmed.

Riassunto - Sono rese note alcune osservazioni corologiche ed ecologiche su Macrosiagon ferruginea (Fabricius, 1775) e sul genere Stenoria Mulsant, 1857 in Sardegna; è segnalata per la prima volta la presenza di Stenoria (Stenoria) analis Schaum, 1859 nell’isola.


Abstract - Chorological and ecological notes on Ripiphoridae and Meloidae (Coleoptera) of Sardinia and first record of Stenoria (Stenoria) analis Schaum, 1859 - Some chorological and ecological observations on Macrosiagon ferruginea (Fabricius, 1775) and the genus Stenoria Mulsant, 1857 in Sardinia are presented; Stenoria (Stenoria) analis Schaum, 1859 is reported for the first time on the island.

Omostropus lucidipennis new species

from the Republic of South Africa

Abstract - Omostropus lucidipennis, new species from the Republic of South Africa (Coleoptera, Carabidae, Harpalinae) is here described, habitus and male genitalia are illustrated. The following systematic changes are proposed: Omostropus bulirschi Facchini, 2012 is transferred from the genus Omostropus Péringuey, 1896 to the genus Anisochirus Jeannel, 1946, n. comb.; Omostropus australis Basilewsky, 1946 is a junior (new) synonym of Eucephalus capensis Laporte de Castelnau, 1835. 


Riassunto - In questo articolo viene descritto Omostropus lucidipennis, nuova specie della Repubblica del Sudafrica, ne sono illustrati l'habitus e il lobo mediano dell’edeago. Sono inoltre proposte le seguenti variazioni di status sistematico: Omostropus bulirschi Facchini, 2012 è trasferito dal genere Omostropus Péringuey, 1896 al genere Anisochirus Jeannel, 1946, n. comb.; Omostropus australis Basilewsky, 1946 è nuovo sinonimo di Eucephalus capensis Laporte de Castelnau, 1835.

A new species of Boeomimetes Péringuey, 1896

from continental Africa

Abstract - A new species of the genus Boeomimetes Péringuey, 1896 is described from continental Africa. Boeomimetes similis n. sp. is the sixth species to date described in the genus. Illustrations of the habitus and male genitalia as well as a distribution map of the new and related species are provided.


Riassunto - In questo articolo è descritta una nuova specie d'Africa continentale appartenente al genere Boeomimetes Péringuey, 1896. Boeomimetes similis n. sp. è la sesta specie nota ad oggi del genere. Fotografie illustranti l’habitus e il lobo mediano dell’edeago oltre a una mappa di distribuzione della nuova specie e specie affini completano l'articolo.

Abstract - A new species of Bradybaenus Dejean, 1829 is here described - B. lucidicollis n. sp. - from Kenya and Somalia. The habitus and male genitalia of the new and related species are illustrated, moreover a checklist of the taxa and a key to the known species of the genus Bradybaenus are provided. The following systematic change is proposed: Bradybaenus exiguus Facchini, 2011 is a junior (new) synonym of Bradybaenus neavei Basilewsky, 1946.


Riassunto - In questo articolo è descritta una nuova specie appartenente al genere Bradybaenus Dejean, 1829 - B. lucidicollis n. sp. - di Kenya e Somalia. Sono raffigurati l’habitus e il lobo mediano dell’edeago della nuova specie e di quelle simili, inoltre sono forniti un elenco e una tabella per la determinazione delle specie del genere Bradybaenus. Viene infine proposta la seguente variazione di status sistematico: Bradybaenus exiguus Facchini, 2011 è nuovo sinonimo di Bradybaenus neavei Basilewsky, 1946.

Abstract - The genus Theodosia J. Thomson, 1880 is revised. The taxa, Theodosia rothschildi Janson, 1903, which has been treated as a junior synonym of T. telifer (Bates, 1889), and Theodosia viridicollis (Kraatz, 1898), which has been treated as a junior synonym of T. howittii (Castelnau, 1873), are considered good species. The taxon Theodosia maindroni kaorui Nagai, 1998 is synonymized with the nominotypical subspecies. The subgenus Hemitheodosia of the genus Theodosia is redescribed in detail. Besides, a key to the subgenera and species of the genus Theodosia is made based on exoskeletal and aedeagal characteristics.
