A new subgenus of the lycid genus Pyropterus Mulsant, 1838
with description of two new species
of the present new subgenus from Taiwan

Abstract - A new subgenus - Formosopyropterus - of the lycid genus Pyropterus Mulsant, 1838 is established. Pyropterus (Formosopyropterus) loi sp. nov. (the type species of the new subgenus) and P. (F.) sungkangensis sp. nov. are described from Taiwan. These species are the first record of the genus Pyropterus from Taiwan. Habitus, maxillary palpi, terminal abdominal segments and aedeagi are illustrated.
